It’s quite funny just how many people I met would tell how much they have always wanted to be in the tourism industry. Most of the time, I would quickly reply with a supportive ‘why ever not’. Sometimes though, I feel just a tad bit guilty. I, of all people, know just how challenging the tourism industry can be especially to newbies. At times, it has been more than like being in a roller-coaster. In fact, sometimes I feel as though I am in the middle of a whirlpool that is slowly sucking the very few breaths I have left. Yes, the industry can be quite unforgiving. However, I must admit that it has also been quite rewarding. The people I meet, the places I go and the experiences are priceless.
So, what can I tell those who are passionate and interested in putting at least one foot in this complicated yet affable industry? It is not for the fainthearted. It is for those who are willing to go the extra mile and take their place in the spotlight. And more importantly, they must embrace technology and the growing appetite for eCommerce.
How can they do that?
These are just some of the steps new travel agencies and agent should consider. Many more are required. Much more effort is needed.
